Ladakh
Ladakh, a region in the northernmost part of India, is renowned for its rugged terrain, high-altitude deserts, and stunning landscapes. Located in the state of Jammu & Kashmir until its reorganization into a separate Union Territory, Ladakh is bordered by the Karakoram Range in the north and the Himalayas to the south.
Land of High Passes
The region’s unique geography includes the cold deserts of Nubra Valley, the azure waters of Pangong Lake (famous from the movie “3 Idiots”), and ancient Buddhist monasteries such as Thikse and Hemis. Ladakh is predominantly inhabited by people of Tibetan descent, contributing to its rich cultural heritage.
Ladakh experiences extreme temperatures, with bitterly cold winters and short, mild summers. Tourism is a significant industry, attracting adventurers and spiritual seekers alike. Treks through the Markha Valley or visits to the remote villages of Turtuk offer a glimpse into the traditional Ladakhi way of life.
