About Amarnath

Amarnath, located in the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir, India, is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites for Hindus. It is known for the sacred Amarnath Cave Temple, which houses the naturally occurring ice Shivlinga, believed to be a manifestation of Lord Shiva. Each year, thousands of devotees undertake the challenging Amarnath Yatra, a journey through the rugged terrain of the Himalayas to seek blessings at this holy site.

The Amarnath Cave Temple is situated at an altitude of approximately 3,888 meters (12,756 feet) and is surrounded by stunning natural beauty. The cave itself is a marvel, measuring about 60 feet in length, 30 feet in width, and 15 feet in height. Inside the cave, the ice Shivlinga is formed by the freezing of water droplets that trickle from the roof of the cave. The size of the Shivlinga varies with the phases of the moon, growing and shrinking with the waxing and waning moon.
